The Superintendent of Schools, along with other school district
and municipal officials, is notified by the Nassau County Police
Department when a registered sex offender is living in our area.
The police department releases information on Level Three (high
risk), Level Two (moderate risk), and Level One (low risk) sex offenders.
The exact address of Level One offenders is not provided, but an
area is revealed based on a zip code.
It is unfortunate, but necessary, that we review
safety rules with our children and remind them to avoid circumstances
that increase their vulnerability. Please keep this in the proper
perspective for your children by reassuring them that we do have
a safe community, but that they need to be alert and careful. For
more information on how to educate your child on the rules of safety,
you can check the following website: www.missing kids.com.
The purpose of the Sex Offender Registration
Act (SORA) is to keep the public safe. This information must be
used responsibly. Anyone receiving information may tell others.
However, please be aware that according to New York State Law, "it
is illegal to use this information to commit a crime against any
of these individuals or to engage in illegal discrimination or harassment
against these people."
