Library Automation System

Destiny Library Manager™
Combines circulation, cataloging, searching, reporting and management in one centrally installed library software system.

Web-based library automation that provides resource which will maximize our library’s power to support students and teachers, curriculum and instruction.

Library Automation: Weeding

Involves a needs assessment of the current collection
It is difficult to isolate library automation from the overall mission and goals of the day to day library operation
Automation is a time consuming process

Weed, weed, weed!
Item has not circulated in five years
Library owns a later edition
Library owns multiple copies
Item is in poor condition

Library Automation: Bar Coding

Create Patron records by loading of the current student data from the student information system into Destiny (i.e., Name, Grade levels, etc.)
Bar-coding of collection has been made easier by using duplicate barcodes, one for the shelf list card and the other for the item.
Each library has been assigned its own unique barcode

Library Automation Benefits

Media Specialist/Librarian/Administrators/Teachers
Improves ability to search the district’s collections
Provides free online databases and electronic resources
Help teachers develop and enrich curriculum by easily finding standards-aligned resources
Provide greater visibility for online resources to streamline cataloging of non-print materials
Track everything from checkout to late fees and generate automatic email reminders to students and parents when books are due.
Follow students, as they move throughout the district with a single patron database.
Select age-appropriate functionality for students and modify
the functionality of screens based on user access levels.

Students
Give students a familiar technology and visual interface to encourage successful library use.
Support district literacy programs for all students and parents by providing 24/7 access to the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), which allows students to browse the District’s library catalog and find resources that meet their needs
Choose options for older students and fluent readers or graphic-based visual search screens for emerging readers, struggling readers and ESL students.
Provide easy access to reading program titles that match students’ reading levels.
Direct students to safe, relevant K-12 web sites containing educator-reviewed, age-appropriate information.
Catalog school-specific subject headings to simplify students’ searches.
