The main objectives
of any recovery plan are to minimize interruptions to the normal
operations, limit the
extent of disruption and damage, minimize impact of the interruption,
and provide for rapid restoration of service.
A list of personnel responsible for the operation
and maintenance of the RUFSD Network is set up together with their
addresses and telephone numbers which are made accessible to all
pertinent administrators of the Roosevelt Union Free School District.
In the event of any interruption of service due
to any hardware or software failures, this department will do everything
possible to minimize its impact. Every conceivable attempt will
be undertaken to ensure that all systems are in a healthy operational
state daily. Any problems will be dealt with in a proactive manner
as to not disrupt the service provided by this department to the
users that depend on the operational status of the RUFSD Network.
Internet Connection Disruption Plan
RUFSD’s Internet Service Provider (ISP) is
MCI, which monitors the line 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If for
some reason the line fails MCI notifies the Chief Technology Officer
and Assistant Manager of Technical Support Services via email at
an account set up through Verizon. The Assistant Manager of Technical
Support Services will then notify the Roosevelt Network Administrator.
If the District’s IT Department notices the outage then MCI
is notified. MCI then assesses the problem and takes appropriate
action. Most outages occur at the ISP(Internet Service Provider)
side of the connection and are usually corrected promptly; these
outages last no longer than a few hours. In the event the problem
is on the District’s side of the connection, MCI notifies
the IT Department that all equipment on their side tests fine and
appropriate action will be taken by the District to ensure minimal
disruption.
Firewall Failure
In the event that there is a software failure or
a catastrophic hardware failure during normal school hours and the
Network Administrator is on site all appropriate actions will be
take to ensure that the disruption is minimized. Presently this
system operates with no redundancy. There is a Cisco SmartNet in
place to ensure support and replacement if warranted. The SmartNet
is renewed annually.
District Wide Virus Protection
Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition Version 10.1.5.5000
is currently installed on all servers and workstations. This software
protects the Network from known viruses possibly from information
downloaded from the internet, infected websites and end-user infections
from diskettes.
The Exchange Server will be protected by
Symantec Anti-Virus for Exchange to provide a real-time scan for
all incoming and outgoing emails.
