The
Roosevelt School District faces an exciting challenge. Across the
nation, school districts trying to address a projected teacher shortage.
At the same time, every school district wants to meet the individual
learning needs and desires of the students and staff. The Roosevelt
Union Free School District is looking to Distance Learning to help
meet these challenges.
RUFSD currently has Video Conferencing capabilities throughout the
District. There are 8 mobile Polycom VSX7000 Dual Video Conferencing
units in the district. There are four at the HS/MS/District and
2 each at Centennial and Washington Rose Elementary Schools. The
system is controlled from the MDF with Cisco IPVC-3521-GW with a
3540-MC for Multi Point Conferencing capabilities.
Distance learning holds much promise. It
allows high school students to take college level courses without
leaving the comfort of their own classrooms. It can also be used
in professional development where a course is offered and the instructor
does not have to be on-site. This becomes a saving to the district
because it does not have to the pay travel and boarding expenses
that otherwise may incur.
