Thorough
and ongoing evaluation of the technology plan is essential to ensure
that our goals are being met. Because the Roosevelt Union Free School
District believes that developing the technology and pedagogy skills
of teachers, creating technology-rich curriculum, and providing
quality access to technology will lead to enhanced student-centered
learning and improved technology skills for our students, it is
important that we measure for growth in all areas.
The Roosevelt School District strongly believes
that evaluation plays a key role in all areas of curriculum. Evaluation
allows the district to stay focused on the needs of staff and students
alike. As Technology is ever changing it is very important to stay
up to date. Meeting the demands of our staff and students ensures
that all will have the tools and equipment needed for success. Technology,
however, requires extra effort. The district must plan for the constant
changes in technology so that our students can compete wit those
in more affluent communities.
The impact of technology throughout the district
will be measured in various ways. Annual Needs Assessment Surveys
will help evaluate the use of technology, level of proficiency,
quality of technology staff development received. Data from year
to year will be compared to look at trends and changes in our implementation.
Technology curriculum will be adjusted accordingly each year to
ensure the highest quality of integration is taking place. All students
and staff will be encouraged to increase technology use. An increase
in computer generated reports, lessons, assessments, presentations,
etc. will also helped to evaluate integration, implementation, and
increase in proficiency across the board. Additionally individual
schools will be encouraged to increase technology at the building
levels and to include tech based activities and lessons in to their
school-wide plans.
Since technology evaluation takes place in the
classroom, staff room, and in the board room it is important that
we pay close attention to needs. Evaluation of technology is a very
unique in that it is ongoing and never gets stale! Constant feed
back from staff and students is important whether it is in written,
verbal, or in a hands on format.
Staff members and students are regularly asked
to complete surveys upon completion of trainings, implementation
of new software, new programs, etc. This allows us to continuously
review our plans and make the necessary purchases, upgrades, and
phase outs.
The district will continuously collect and analyze
data and feedback that is disseminated throughout the school year.
We will continue to strive to improve staff and student learning
opportunities. Each year staff and students will be asked for their
input to ensure that their needs are met. As staff and students
grow in proficiency we will increase the types and levels of programs,
equipment, and trainings accordingly.
The district strives to do
the following:
· Increase the use of technology throughout the district
· Increase the technology proficiency of staff and students
· Increase student achievement through the use of technology
· Increase the proficiency of day to day operations through
the use of technology
· Increase the sophistication of technology lessons, presentations,
and reports
· Increase in student centered activities through the use
of technology
· Increase in integration of technology in all subject areas
Professional Development
The first level in evaluating the effectiveness of professional
development is through the immediate feedback of the staff-developed
audience. The first level of evaluation will tell us how effective
our professional development offerings meet the expectations of
teachers participating in the training. Data will be gathered in
two formats:
1) Workshop evaluation forms completed by workshop participants
2) Annual technology survey
3) Principal survey
Data from the evaluation and surveys will be managed
and analyzed by the Technology Department and assisted by the Director
of Data, Research and Evaluation.
The second level of evaluation measures the actual
improvement of Roosevelt Union Free School District teachers in
the areas of (1) technology skills (2) instructional practices.
1) Data on technology skills will be gathered from
an annual technology survey in which teachers will self-assess their
ability to operate various technology tools.
2) Administrators will gather data on instructional practices (how
well teachers integrate technology in a student-centered environment)
as part of the teacher appraisal system. Principals observe teachers
and document progress in the area of technology integration.
Data from the evaluations will be managed by the
Technology Department and assisted by the Director of Data, Research
and Evaluation.
Curriculum Development
In the area of curriculum development the Roosevelt
Union Free School District is interested in increasing the number
of lessons that integrate technology. We are also interested in
maintaining a high level of quality for all lessons in our curriculum.
In order to ensure an acceptable level of quality and quantity,
the following will be encouraged:
Increase in lessons in:
1) District curriculum involving technology at every grade level
and in every subject.
2) Increase in Technology standards being addressed as a result
of the technology lessons in the curriculum. We want to ensure that
teachers have sufficient lessons at every grade level to ensure
student mastery of the technology standards.
In addition, the Technology Coordinator will work
closely with the core area directors to review all lessons developed
for District curriculum to ensure high quality. More specifically
all literacy software will be correlated to the current literacy
program.
Access
To ensure quality access, the Roosevelt Union Free
School District must stay vigilant with its acquisition program
and provide timely support for existing equipment. Both areas will
be evaluated annually.
1) Results of the inventory will be measured against
the district goal of 6:1 student to computer ratio.
2) Principal survey to measure perceived level of technical support.
3) School Technology Liaisons work log.
Roosevelt Union Free School District 3-Year Technology Plan (2008-2011)
The data will be managed by the DATA/Technology
Department.
Integration
Professional development, curriculum and access
are all means to an end. The end is improved student learning. Through
the three-component technology plan, the Roosevelt Union Free School
District will build a learning environment for all students in which
technology is used regularly to enhance teaching and learning. With
regular use of technology, we expect to achieve the following:
1) Increased student technology skills
2) Increased student motivation for learning
3) Improved student achievement in all subjects.
As we have outlined our ultimate goals for the
3-Year technology plan, it is incumbent upon the District to evaluate
student progress. The following data will be gathered and analyzed
to measure progress on these goals:
1) Sampling of student electronic portfolio
2) Student technology assessment at select grade levels
3) Sample survey of student attitudes toward technology and learning
Data gathered and analyzed through the formative
evaluation process will guide our decision making so that we can
ensure our resources are directed to improving student learning.
