1. Person responsible for setting district style
and content guidelines
Michele Van Eyken/Chris Repetti/Jason Descalso
How will the District monitor District/school
website activities?
The District will monitor district and school
web activities by having all members of the Department of Instructional
Technology and Information Systems randomly monitor the use of
the Internet on a regular basis along with reports received from
Verizon. In addition, IT department staff will administer spot
checks in all schools and randomly review the history of the browsers
used by students and teachers.
2. What is the approval process for materials
posted on District and building-level web sites?
Roosevelt UFSD School staff are not allowed to
post materials on the web without the approval of the Superintendent.
Preferably, a school or district employee should submit the web
page on a floppy disk or a CD-ROM to the district’s Chief
Technology Officer. The CTO will review the submitted materials.
If the materials have minor errors, (spelling mistakes) the CTO
will correct them. If the web site, however, has major errors,
(improper linking, missing files, or many grammatical errors)
the CTO will reject the web site and will cite the reason/s for
rejecting the web site. It should also be noted that if the CTO
finds objectionable materials, the CTO will reject the web site
and will cite the reason/s for rejecting the web site. The school
will be notified via E-mail to the Principal and School Web Page
Liaison. After the CTO approves material for the Roosevelt School
District web site, the Superintendent will review the materials
that are submitted for posting on the web site.
3. Who is responsible for additions and deletions for the Roosevelt
administrative e-mail systems
(Microsoft Outlook) in the district?
If additions or deletions are needed, the Technology
Department or delegated representative will be the responsible
parties.
If Other: Chris Repetti/Jason Descalso

4. What will be the procedures for reporting
and handling IAUP disciplinary violations?
Schools will be provided with a form for reporting
IAUP disciplinary violations. Schools may also call the IAUP Liaison
in their building. The IAUP Liaison will investigate the IAUP
disciplinary violation and will take the necessary steps to insure
that this violation cannot occur again. For example, if an inappropriate
web page is not blocked by the CheckPoint Internet filter, Michele
Van Eyken or her designee will be contacted with the URL of the
inappropriate website.
The following is a list of minimum recommendations
that schools should use to handle IAUP disciplinary violations
(Schools may add other disciplinary measures if applicable):
1st Violation- Parent is contacted, student
is given warning, and the teacher reviews the IAUP with the student(s).
In addition, student Internet privileges may be taken away for
a maximum of 2 days.
2nd Violation – Parent is notified about
the IAUP violation, and the student loses Internet privileges
for 5 school days.
3rd Violation- Parent is notified about the IAUP
violation, and the student loses the attendance of 1trip or 1
in-house specialty program along with lose of Internet privileges
for 10 days.
(Please note, the student will be given any Internet-based materials
needed to complete assignments in a paper format or via textbook).
5. Describe the procedures for modifying the
Internet filtering software, at the District and school sites.
The Roosevelt Union Free School District utilizes
Smart Filter on a Central Office server to block inappropriate
web sites. If a school wishes to have a web site blocked or unblocked,
the school should contact the Chief Technology Officer and make
the request. After the request is made, the CTO will review the
request. If the CTO finds the request appropriate, the CTO will
block or unblock a web site with the reasons for this request.
6. What monitoring mechanisms will be put into
place for schools that change filter defaults?
Currently, the Roosevelt Union Free School District does not allow
schools to change the filter defaults. The Roosevelt Union Free
School District, however, can request the blocking or the unblocking
of a web site through the Technology Department.
7. Who will accept responsibility for modifying
Internet filter software at the District and
school levels?
The Roosevelt Union Free School District Technology
Department will manage the level of filtering as Smart Filter
has been set to filter based on Elementary school, Middle schools
and High schools
8. How will information be disseminated to each
constituency involved? Which materials/formats will be used? (Include
all to be used.)
